Ideas for Outdoor Weddings & Dianne & Matthew’s Quaker Wedding
Matthew & Dianne’s outdoor wedding went off without a hitch! I’ve made a little list of ideas for outdoor weddings that I think will be helpful for anyone planning a simple affair.
IDEAS FOR OUTDOOR WEDDINGS
- Get married in a park or on an estate that has a well manicured outdoor area. I live in Charleston and our town is full of gorgeous parks. This wedding was shot in Hampton Park. More outdoor Charleston locations are: White Point Gardens (also known as Battery Park), the Pineapple Fountain, and lets not forget the beaches and private antebellum mansions with pristine gardens. You don’t have to decorate much, or at all, if you opt for any of these locations.
- You will need a place for guests to sit, unless you plan on a very short ceremony. Snyder Events brought chairs to the Hampton Park gazeebo, set them up, and picked them up after the ceremony. Easy peasy!
- Have a backup plan . . . can you say, “rain?” This is why most people opt out of an outdoor wedding. Hampton Park is great because had it rained, we would’ve been sheltered. If you’re thinking of planning a wedding in Charleston SC, you’re in luck! Our weather is pretty amazing. Being a Charleston wedding photographer can be challenging when it rains but a backup plan will keep you stress free. On a positive note, rain has never ruined my outdoor weddings. Rain has graced many of my brides’ wedding days, but the sun always comes out!
Do you ever notice simple moments in life when you’re completely in tune to whatever is happening and you know you’re going to remember “that” forever? It could be the way someone looks at you, an random conversation you have with a stranger, or an unexpected touch. Well, Matthew & Dianne’s Charleston wedding was one of those moments for me. As you scroll through their ceremony pictures, you’ll notice that it’s a non traditional wedding. Nobody gave Dianne to Matthew, they walked into the ceremony site together. Nobody “married” them; they gave themselves to each other and wrote intimate, original vows proclaiming their love and commitment. Then, the group of people gathered to witness their union stood and spoke words of blessings, wisdom, and love over them. There was a good bit of silent time, but it was meant as a time of prayer and reflection- and I quite liked it.
Dianne had soooo many great ideas for outdoor weddings. She definitely chose a picturesque location, relied on an event company to help her with hard labor, and she had a backup plan. Wind did present a problem with her gorgeous, hand painted marriage certificate which was read aloud and signed by all present. Her resourcefull husband made sure to bring weights to hold the paper down.
This is a Quaker wedding, and it was the most pure, intriguing ceremony I’ve ever documented. After it was all said and done, everyone shook hands and made merry with champagne- it was perfect. Dianne and Matthew, congratulations and cheers to a long life of happiness!
