The Boys | Our Baby Hatched Last Night

Charleston Photographer

I posted to Facebook, about a month ago, that the boys and I found a caterpillar.  It was the most colossal caterpillar we’d ever seen!  After a few Google searches, we discovered that it was a Giant Spotted Leopard Moth Caterpillar.  It was an adult and didn’t have much longer to grow before transitioning into the chrysalis stage.  We fed it honeysuckle leaves and enjoyed holding it until one day, about three weeks ago, when we noticed that it was spinning a loose, yellow web.  A week later we noticed that his spiny, black skin molted to reveal a shiny black pod.  This morning I woke to the sound of fluttering wings and a striking moth with leopard markings!  It’s a BOY!!! Boys seem to be the trend in this house. :)  After a quick change into our play clothes we ran outside to introduce our little boy to the great outdoors.  William, Sullivan, & Harrison all took a turn holding him and then we found the most spotted tree for him to make his home.
