Sullivan’s Island Family Portraits | Big Families Are the Best

Posted in: Charleston Photography, Family Photography

It’s Fourth of July week in Charleston and with the festivities of this momentous holiday comes travelers. :)  This particular family has vacationed on Sullivan’s Island, every year, for as long as they can remember.  They are a large family of cousins, brothers, sisters, and such.  After working with them, I had the distinct feeling that big families are best.  WHY?  Because they are full of wit, and grace, and laughter. Misners, McManus, and DeGroots- thank you for bringing your charm to Charleston.  It was wonderful getting to meet you all.

Folly Beach Family Photo | The Romine Family

Posted in: Family Photography, The Boys

Before the Romines moved to California we went to Folly Beach for some casual family pictures, but it turned into an adventure!  This spot on Folly is hard to find- but it’s a true gem of Charleston.  Once you reach the lighthouse (it’s a long walk so bring a wagon for smaller kids) you’ll see lots of driftwood trees and cinder block ruins.  This is an awesome spot for a small wedding or an engagement shoot BUT it’s even more fun for kids.  Our kids (7 between us) tunneled under the walls, climbed the trees, whooped & hollered, and enjoyed a carefree evening.  FYI- there are NO baños out here. :) Before leaving Folly Beach we stopped at Woody’s for some pizza and video games. It’s always nice to block out time in a busy schedule to enjoy life- life with no urgent demands.  I think we adults remembered what it was like to be a kid that day. SUCCESS!

Vera Watkins | Sweet Baby Love

Posted in: Baby & Newborn Photography, Child Photography, Family Photography

Ivana (mommy of baby Vera) is one of my favorite people on earth.  She has such a joyful spirit and her household is proof of that.    Vera is the newest of three beautiful girls who are also full of life and smiles.  Baby Vera even gave me a smile on this, her very first photo shoot!  Ivana, I just want to tell you how proud I am of all you do for your family.  On top of all the everyday stuff- you take time to love your girls in very personal ways.  I know Vera is already a recipient of this special love you show because of how you responded to these pictures.  You were so happy that I took a picture of her right ear (your favorite of her ears). You thanked me for taking a picture of her right eyelashes (the longest of her eyelashes).  You swooned when you saw her puckered lips (you called them luscious).  You notice and celebrate the unique characteristics of all your girls- and that makes you a perfect mommy.

Charleston Newborn Photography | Emma Poston | Sweet Baby Love

Posted in: Baby & Newborn Photography, Family Photography, Life Style Photography

Brittany & Caleb, it’s been a long road but baby Emma is finally here- and she’s beautiful.  Thank you for letting me photograph all the sweet things that make her your baby.

Being a newborn photographer is so much fun.  Even though Brittany & Caleb live in beautiful Charelston, a newborn shoot is always better in the comfort of your own home.  It’s one of the best settings, for a life style photographer.  You can’t get any more “life styled” than a casual shoot in-home photo shoot.   This family had another toddler who organicly jumped into a few photographs.  I love when that happens because the outcome is very natural.  It’s fun to do some posed shots (like the rings on toes) but we were at the mercy of little Emma the whole time.  If she wanted to be held, I photographed her being held.  If she was content to lie by herself, I photographed her bare bum. :) It’s so simple, but the photography speaks for itself.

The Boys | Darth Vader in Training

Posted in: Charleston Photography, Family Photography

Monday is cleaning day. It’s the most dreaded of all days of the week- so says my 9 year old.  This Monday was a bit different, though.  We stumbled upon a large bag of Nerf darts and quickly found four guns.  For an hour we screamed, dodged, and reloaded.  It was the best cleaning day EVER.  We will now hold a rematch every Monday . . . after all the cleaning is done.

This is Sullivan. He loves Star Wars and had a Star Wars birthday party last year, hence the shirt and Storm Trooper Nerf gun.  He specifically asked me to sing the Darth Vader theme song while he stalked me from around the corner. Enjoy!
